We are often asked about coffee certification programs and whether our coffee is Organic, Fair Trade and/or Rain Forest Certified. Much of the coffee that we offer has some if not all of these certifications and therefore we thought it would be appropriate to define what each of those terms mean and how it relates to coffee.
CERTIFIED ORGANICO:
Organic coffee is coffee that is grown on land that has not been exposed to any prohibited substances (synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, growth regulators, and fungicides) for three years prior to certification.
FAIR TRADE CERTIFIED:
Fair Trade coffee guarantees a fair minimum price to coffee farmers. This coffee is purchased directly from the farmers themselves, so more of the money you pay ends up in the hands of the people who grew the coffee.
RAIN FOREST ALLIANCE CERTIFIED:
Rainforest Alliance certified coffee is a comprehensive process that promotes and guarantees improvements in agriculture and forestry. Our independent seal of approval ensures that goods and services were produced in compliance with strict guidelines protecting the environment, wildlife, workers and local communities.
